(PORTAGE, Michigan, November 25, 2024) – Dr. Duncan Mackie PhD., the Director of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at Bud & Mary’s, a pioneering and family-owned cannabis company, will be in Michigan along with colleagues starting on December 9. Dr. Mackie’s visit is intended to educate Bud & Mary’s staff on their research division and efforts and to host intimate fireside chats with wholesale and industry partners on December 11.

As the Michigan market grows and matures and the regulatory landscape shifts, it’s important more than ever to identify the therapeutic potential of cannabis and help our staff and partners understand the value of this work and the safety of our products,” says Dr. Mackie.
With over a decade of experience in drug discovery, cellular and molecular biology, and pharmacology, Dr. Mackie has developed Bud &Mary’s research program, which focuses on marijuana’s potential medical use for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Dr. Mackie holds a DEA Schedule I Cannabis Researcher license and led the efforts for Bud & Mary’s application for DEA registration as a marijuana bulk manufacturer. During this time, Dr. Mackie and Bud & Mary’s have invested several years and monetary resources into establishing a first-of-its-kind research and production facility. Bud & Mary’s was the first cannabis company to implement current Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Agricultural and Collection Practices, and ISO17025 standards.
In addition, Bud & Mary’s has spent years collaborating with the University of Iowa’s Department of Neurology, School of Public Health, and the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science to organize and prepare to conduct a unique clinical trial involving cannabis-derived therapeutics for sleep. Dr. Mackie’s research team has several sources of research funding, including grant funding from the Institute of Cannabis Research at Colorado State University-Pueblo, where it collaborates with research teams from the University of Colorado’s Anschutz and Boulder campuses to investigate the quality of products within Colorado’s adult-use marijuana marketplace.
Dr. Mackie and the Bud & Mary’s Michigan team will host an open-to-the-public meet & greet in their Portage store on Dec 9th and exclusive fireside chats with wholesale and industry partners in Kalamazoo on Dec 10th and in Allen Park on Dec. 11th. In addition to the educational and networking experience, partners will get a chance to be entered into a raffle for an exclusive Colorado Getaway trip next March.
